The Closet
"Ordinary People Serving an Extraordinary God."
"The Closet" is a space where donated clothing, household items and furniture can be received, organized and distributed to those who are in need.  Grace Place receives donated items from the public between 9:00 am and 2:30 pm on weekdays, except for Tuesdays.  Upon receipt, volunteers organize the items in a store-like setting to help facilitate the shopper's ease in finding the correct size of clothing and shoes, needed household items, etc.

The Closet is located at 1600 Jackson St., Monroe, LA.  It is in the rear of the ministry building which houses the Grace Place Soup Kitchen and is open during the lunch hour so that the guests can shop for needed items when they come for their meals.  Items in The Closet are sold for a nominal fee.  By giving the shoppers the opportunity to purchase their selections, we believe that we are allowing them to maintain self-respect and a sense of personal responsibility in providing for their families.  In cases where the person is not able to pay for what they need, the items are always given free of charge.

Grace Place is available to help in the following situations with their supplies of donated goods:

  • Assisting victims of fire or other natural disaster in replacing lost items.
  • Assisting women with children who are fleeing domestic abuse or other harmful relationships in setting up safe households.
  • Assisting men and women who are reentering society after incarceration in finding appropriate clothing for job interviews.

There is never a charge in these situations nor is there  ever a charge for children's clothing.

In addition, there is always a "Blessing Box" from which guests may select items at no charge when they come to the Soup Kitchen for lunch.
